I fished the Greenbelt from the put in at Ray Roberts dam down to the old bridge today. Even if the fish weren’t jumping in the kayak, the weather was great with plenty of shade on the way down and a manageable temperature on the way back to the dam.
I caught plenty of largemouth bass in the deepest parts of the rushing ripples. On the way back I stopped just before the river splits to the dam and the put in to try and catch some gar, but whatever they were eating – I didn’t have it. I saw gar from 2 pounds to well over twenty pounds – alligator and spotted gar.
The weather may only get better from here, but the water is still barely flowing and Ray Roberts itself is way down.
